Scientific and financial analysis on stranded assets!

21 mars 2018 @ 08:00 - 09:30 CET

Moving to a low-carbon economic system will require several industrial sectors to undertake a deep technological transformation of their production processes, leading some of their physical capital assets to become stranded. This might also have a large-scale impact on the assets of the upstream and downstream sectors, producing a ’cascade of asset stranding’, which might in turn lead financial assets to lose part of their value.

The term stranded assets has gained significant prominence in environmental and climate change discourses, where the focus has been on how environment-related factors could strand assets in different sectors.

How will stranded assets affect investments? Swesif invites you to a seminar where the question will be discussed by researchers and hedge fund trustees.

Agenda

  • Dr. Emanuele Campiglio is Assistant Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), where he leads the research area in Climate Economics and Finance, and Visiting Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Emanuele is leading the Green Macro project, dedicated to developing a macroeconomic model of the Swedish economy to study its transition to a circular society as part of the Mistra Financial Systems (MFS) programme.
  • Luca de Lorenzo, Head of Climate, Energy and Society at Stockholm Environment Institute will talk about  his Vinnova research on stranded assets on a branch level. Luca is working on projects aimed at understanding the role of energy for a sustainable development and implications for climate change and a low carbon economy. Luca is focused at understanding the role of fossil fuels during the energy transition and the financing needs for delivery of affordable and sustainable energy services.
  • Magnus Strömer, Portfolio Manager, Alternative Investments at Handelsbanken Fonder and Ulf Erlandsson, Senior Portfolio Manager at Strukturinvest will discuss on how they as fund trustees work with climate analysis. Ulf has written a paper that discusses the challenges of carbon-dioxide emission measurement on corporate credit portfolios. The paper which you can find here illustrates how to translate traditional CO2 reductive strategies into incentives for portfolio managers.

The meeting will be held in English.
